On this page:The Realm Banner Black-Red-Gold, League of Active Democrats (Reichsbanner Schwarz-Rot-Gold, Bund aktiver Demokraten) was founded in 1953. The new organization consider themselves the successors of the pre-World War II "Imperial Banner Black-Red-Gold" (1924-1933). The Realm Banner Black-Red-Gold state that its goals are to commemorate its predecessor´s struggle of defending democracy in the Weimar Republic, as well as to provide new political education for young people about active participation in defending and enhancing the democracy in the present-day Germany.

The previous variant of this flag differed in central emblem, which was placed on a gold square, conjoined with the gold field into a single shape, and had fewer details in red - eagle's tongue only, its legs being gold, just as the inner border, which was separated from central gold area by a black fimbriation. [This older variant is still in use in places, apparently until requiring replacement - example Photo #3.]
